I am a psychotherapist and counsellor in Brighton & Hove, East Sussex, currently working in private practice from the Centre for Mindfulness-Based Education in Brighton City Centre. My aim is to provide a professional, friendly and personal service to adults and young people over 14 years old who are struggling to cope in some way, or to those who wish to explore their experience of being human in more depth. Altogether, I have 17 years training and experience in the fields of psychology, therapy and personal development. My undergraduate degree was in Psychology and Neurophysiology at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford University. I then worked as an advocate (for Carlisle People First) and as an Assistant Clinical Psychologist (for the NHS) with people with learning disabilities and mental health issues. Whilst running a business as a garden designer and gardener, I embarked on 7 years training as a psychotherapist and counsellor at Spectrum (Centre for Humanistic Psychology) and then worked as an adviser and counsellor for young people with acute and complex needs (for the Connexions Service). I have trained extensively in the areas of sexuality and human relationship, both with Spectrum and with the Human Awareness Institute UK. I worked in private practice as a psychotherapist and counsellor in Stoke Newington, London, before moving to Brighton at the end of 2007.
In terms of having affiliation with professional bodies, I am in ongoing clinical supervision and post-graduate professional development at Spectrum, who are registered and monitored by the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). I am also a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by their Ethical Framework for Good Practice.
